| Retail crime on rise |
A recent survey from the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) shows a sharp rise in the amount of retail crime linked to the troubled economy. The RILA survey found that roughly 61 percent of respondents showed increasing trends in opportunistic and amateur shoplifting. 72 percent of respondents also claimed to see a rise in organized retail crime, and a 52 percent increase in financial fraud. The 72 percent in organized retail crime was also alarming because organized groups or rings have an easier network to dispense of stolen goods, and could even sell the stolen items on the internet. "These trends confirm that retail criminals are seeking to capitalize on the current economic climate to expand their activities," said Paul Jones, vice president of asset protection for RILA. "Their resulting ability to fund other crimes should be a concern to everyone."

| Ways to motivate your team that won’t break the bank |
Finding ways to motivate employees can sometimes be difficult, especially for small business owners who may not have a large budget for employee moral. According to entrepreuner.com there are several ways to motivate your employees without having to break the bank. When we think of recognition, we think of praise and awards, but there is a more integrated approach to ensure that members of your crew know their importance. It could be as simple as trusting employees with important customers or introducing them to an instrumental figure within the organization. It's also been shown that employees find recognition more valuable when it's administered individually rather than as part of a team. Creating quality relations with members of your team is also a great way to help motivate your staff. For example once a manager solidifies a superior relationship with his employees, it's as simple as verbally reinforcing positive behavior. If a manager focuses on the underappreciated performers to figure out what they do well and recognize them for it those employees are more likely to do more things well. Something as simple as creating a company blog for your businesses best work is yet another great and simple way to keep your staff motivated.
