| Hannon Security Welcomes Hennepin Center for the Arts |
Hannon Security is pleased to welcome new customer, Hennepin Center For
The Arts (HCA). HCA is located in downtown Minneapolis and is home to more than 17 performing and visual art companies that reside on the building's eight floors, including the Minnesota Dance Theatre, James Sewell Ballet, and Zenon Dance Company. The building is also home for the Illusion Theater, the Minnesota Chorale, and VSA Arts Minnesota.
Hannon Security started security services at HCA on November 1st. Bill Feriancek, Property Manager for HCA said, "November went well and I am very pleased with the Officers you have placed here at HCA!! I have been very impressed with Hannon Security since my first meeting… and things just keep getting better all the way through your entire staff!"
Thursday, November 19, was a momentous day for the HCA and the 100 year-old Shubert Theatre. A ground breaking ceremony was held to celebrate the start of construction on the Theater’s renovation project. The Shubert Theater was moved from its former downtown location to its current location next to the HCA in 1999. By fall of 2010, HCA will become part of the Minnesota Shubert Performing Arts and Education Center. The new facility will be a three-building complex that will also include the renovated Shubert Theater and a new glass-walled atrium connecting the two historic buildings and serving them both as a common lobby. Once completed, the 508-seat Shubert Theatre will be a center for dance, music and theater.
Hannon Security provided additional security for the ground breaking ceremony that took place in the parking lot between the HCA and the Shubert Theatre. Hundreds of supporters turned out to celebrate this historic milestone. Attendees heard from ten speakers, including Minneapolis Mayor, R.T. Rybak, and were entertained with the ceremonious"shovel dance" performed by dancers from the Minnesota Dance Theatre.
The Center is managed by Minneapolis-based nonprofit Artspace Projects Inc. who also has been leading an effort to renovate the Minnesota Shubert Theatre. John Linnerson, Property Manager for Artspace said, "Thanks for making the transition to Hannon Security so smooth. Your staff is such a great fit; it already feels like they have been here for years!"
Hannon Security looks forward to a great partnership at HCA! |

| Cyber Monday Delivers Dose of Holiday Cheer to Retailers |
According to the research firm Coremetrics, online sales during Cyber Monday rose 14% this year from 2008. The large increase suggests that many Americans were more interested in web promotions and deals than flocking to large department stores. The survey showed that consumers bought nearly 30% more items per order on Cyber Monday this year and spent almost $180 on each order. "The promotions we saw convinced more people to shop online," said John Squire, Coremetrics' chief strategy officer. The survey took into account numbers from over 500 stores including Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, and Nordstrom.

| Businesses Mount Efforts to Retain Valued Employees |
As the economy slowly recovers many businesses are now focusing their sites on what makes workers happy, in order to retain top talent. According to a survey by Spherion, most employees cite competitive pay and benefits over management climate and workers’ relationships when deciding on their ideal work environment. According to annual survey Watson Wyatt Worldwide many workers have grown frustrated during the recession and might consider leaving when the economy improves. The survey also concluded that among top performers commitment for the company dropped the largest amount. Dr. Jeffrey Jolton an organizational psychologist at Kenexa Corp recommends employers strive to reward top performers financially and publicize plans to reverse any recent cuts in pay and benefits. If employers can't afford to boost pay, he suggests firms devise alternatives, such as offering workers more scheduling flexibility or more say over assignments.

The first candy canes were made without stripes. The stripes appeared at the beginning of the 20th Century. It was around that time that confectioners began using peppermint as well.
