| Governor Proclaims Crime Stoppers Month |
A beneficiary of Hannon Security Services, Inc.'s community support has received recognition by Governor Tim Pawlenty. The Governor issued a proclamation [View the proclamation in full at www.crimestoppersmn.org News and Events] declaring January as Crime Stoppers of Minnesota Recognition Month. Crime Stoppers is a non profit organization designed to collect information about crimes anonymously and provides cash rewards for tips that lead to an arrest and charging. The Governor’s proclamation highlights the fact that this organization is now beginning its fourth decade of working with law enforcement to fight crime by collecting tip information that might otherwise not be available to the agency. Nicholas Luciano, Vice President of Hannon serves as the Crime Stoppers of Minnesota Board of Directors’ Chairman and has helped to ensure its effectiveness in fighting crime. Hannon provides Crime Stoppers with free office space, phone and computer support, donated employee time, financial and in kind support.
Luciano notes that we have worked with Crime Stoppers "to provide an alternative to silence for those that may not want to deal with law enforcement directly. We have been able to apply the expertise of Hannon employees to enhance Crime Stoppers with technology that makes it a useful crime fighting tool to law enforcement as geographically diverse as from Rock County in the southwest corner to Cook County in the arrowhead." Hannon is especially pleased to support Crime Stoppers as many of its employees have gone on to work in law enforcement and many of its current employees previously had also worked in law enforcement.
Luciano went on to note that "for every tip we get, or crime that we feature on our website there is a victim and usually several victims, but there is also somebody who knows information that can help and they can stay anonymous." Crime Stoppers can be contacted at the toll free number of 1-800-222-TIPS (8477); at the website www.crimestoppersmn.org; or by SMS texting TIP674, the message, then SEND to 274637.
Crime Stoppers is working to establish a broad base of support from many corporations, community and professional organizations and individuals across Minnesota. As a non profit organization donations are fully tax deductible and can be made at the Support Us tab on the Crime Stoppers website or by going to www.givemn.org and typing in 'crime'. |

Bandanna-clad Jason Zacchi, 27, was arrested in Dearborn Heights, Mich., in November after, according to police, pointing a shotgun at a Wendy's employee at the drive-in window and demanding money. Moments later, the shift manager angrily approached the window and yelled at Zacchi, "What the hell are you doing?" (The manager had recognized Zacchi through his bandanna. Zacchi is her son.) | Job Seekers Should Use Precaution When Posting Resumes On Internet |
The big benefit of posting your resume on the Internet is that anyone anywhere can access it and offer you a job. This benefit can also be a major drawback when cyber criminals may access personal information on a resume. Increasingly, online resumes are being accessed not just by legitimate employers but also by offshore criminals out to steal identities or bring low-level recruits into international crime rings. Experts warn that in the past year, such fraudsters have gotten more aggressive about contacting people whose resumes are online, whether on personal Web sites or on large, reputable career search sites. "We're hearing from a couple of people each week who are having their resume accessed by criminals," said Pam Dixon, executive director of the nonprofit San Diego research organization World Privacy Forum. Experts say when posting a resume on the internet, leave out personal information and offer an e-mail address instead of personal addresses and phone numbers. |
